About the Fair

Energy, how it is produced and how it is consumed, has a significant impact on all of us. Whether we are interested in saving money, the environment, or both, improving energy efficiency can have a profound effect on our lives. Indeed, no change in the way we approach our energy needs will have a greater effect than improving energy efficiency in our homes and workplaces. This is something we can all do easily with technologies now available. Be it through high efficiency light bulbs or hybrid electric automobiles, the technology exists now to dramatically reduce our energy consumption, improve our lives and reduce our impact on the environment. Improving our energy efficiency coupled with increasing the use of renewable energy offers the real potential to help us create a more sustainable economy.

The 2006 North Country Sustainable Energy Fair will mark the 11th year we have been gathering to learn and discuss ways to achieve this goal for ourselves and future generations. This year the Fair will start on Friday night at 7 with a special panel of five biodiesel experts. Among the presenters will be John Fox of Homeland Energy who has developed a plan to create a biodiesel plant here in the North Country and Mahlin Clements, founder of Ag-Pro, a local soybean oil processing plant that is encouraging local farmers to grow crops for biodiesel. There will be question and answer time, as well as a reception afterwards for networking.

On Saturday the Fair opens at 9:30 a.m. and continues to 4:30 p.m. with exhibits and five different workshops and demonstrations starting every hour on the hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Four guided Green Home Tours to a variety of energy efficient and renewable energy powered homes will take place in the morning and afternoon of Sunday May 7th.We will showcase homes with grid tied photovoltaic systems, ENERGY STAR (logo) homes, homes with off-grid renewable energy systems and passive solar homes. These are popular so sign up early at the Fair on Saturday!

The Fair offers topnotch speakers and workshops on a variety of subjects. Vendors and exhibits will offer products and information on how to take part in the emerging renewable energy economy.

Children are welcome. We provide free childcare for the youngest attendees and workshops for those ready to begin a lifetime of learning about the principles behind renewable energy. 2006 will mark the third year of the Youth Energy and Environmental Expo. The Expo highlights projects and research conducted by students grades 6 through 12.
